Back to Business

13 08 2009

The job hunt is over and now its back to work. A better position could not have been thrown at me! My job search was winding down and I was lucky enough to have several offers on the table. Then as I was about to make the final decision Gateway for Cancer Research found me.  This position combines my passion for the digital world with helping thousands of people who have been touched my cancer. My mother is a breast cancer survivor therefore this is near and dear to my heart. How lucky am I to wake up every morning knowing that my actions are helping others….and I am getting paid for it! Much more to come ……

We are hosting and upcoming race benefiting Cancer Research for the Walter Payton Cancer Fund on Sept 12, 2009 in Arlington Heights, IL

There are many ways to help us out for the race ….volunteers to help before and after the race, running or even a donation. You can contact me directly or visit the website for further information.

Just TRI!Training…..well it just has not been my season, but that is OK.  Between job searching, torn liagaments, sickness and finally crashing my car last week all I can do is laugh. We were running this morning and having “food confessions” from the day before. We determined who ate the most/worst its pretty funny. Let’s just say this morning my friend “Sweets” won.  My last race will be this Sunday. This will be my longest race, mile swim, 25 bike and 10k run. Great stories are sure to follow next week.

Exicited About the Possibilities

26 05 2009

I have recently wrapped up several interviews and I am awaiting responses. This is the fun part……. trying to guess all the pieces, determine what my first action would be in the new role. I even had a dream the other night in my new career. Some people may think this would not be exciting, however I find that it is a new start, clean slate and I am able to bring all my talents from other positions and LEARN even more.

This article on how to find a job on Twitter was great

TRAINING UPDATE: Weekend was great, finally nice weather arrived. Had a great run on Saturday morning approx 7 miles. On Monday we meet the group and rode about 17miles….. the wind was crazy. Today, Tuesday we swam outside since the pool just opened. The water was warm however YIKES the air temp was cold.

Winds of Change…

11 05 2009

I want to thank all of those who have written such wonderful recommendations for me on LinkedIN. After coaching so many companies over the years on how important the “apply process” is,  I have realized there is so much work to do. Makes you wonder if any company through their Onboarding process has hiring managers or recruiter actually walk through the steps. If they did, which we know they don’t, they would learn so much.

TRAINING UPDATE:Weekend swim practice was fairly light, Coach was not there so myself and another swimmer coached the Master group.

Monday we found a great path at Commissioners Park , little over a mile loop but at least it was nice to get outside. We were a little slow this morning got about 5  miles in before heading back to start the morning. I stayed back and completed 1 more mile since I had ants in my pants, felt pretty good just need to get the distance in.

And the Beat goes on…..

7 05 2009

And the beat goes on……interesting week full of new challenges and opportunities. Finally the crush of the economic down turn has hit me and I am in search of a new career. I used the term “career” because I truly want to find a career, not just an “opportunity”, to have the ability to make changes and impose my skills on the new suspects ( I mean employer ;-) )

LinkedIN right now is my biggest fan, how on earth did people network before this? I am very lucky to have such an AWESOME group of people I am connected to. Many of which are helping me search “behind the scenes” to lead to the “next BIG thing”.  So far this week I have had some great conversation with several companies.

TRAINING UPDATE: Today was swim practice, which I find these morning are much easier to get up than when I have to run. Coach is picking up the “pace” as we move closer to some of our first races of the season. The focus today was “pace work”. Finding your normal “pace” for a 100 and then adjusting each one….one at pace……one -5sec of pace…..one +5sec pace. He was actually making me think at 5:30am! It really gave you a better feel of where you are at in the water and then how to adjust accordingly.

OFF to network some more and return calls!
